    Collectivity and Criticism: (Fragments of) Conversations on Post-dance

    Post-dance first unfolded as a conference in MDT in Stockholm, 14-16 October, 2015, created by Danjel Andersson, Andre Lepecki and Gabriel Smeds, and was followed by a multi-authored publication co-edited by Andersson, Mette Edvardsen and MĂĄrten SpĂĄngberg (March 2017) that sought to delineate post-dance as a mode of thinking about an expanded contemporary dance and choreographic practice. This experiment in collective criticism thinks through and around post-dance as a critical moment in contemporary dance practice. Authored by Writingshop, a long-term collaborative project between four European critics examining the processes, modes and politics of contemporary, collective critical practice, it intersperses multi-authored notes from and on post-dance with a timeline. This timeline is an edited transcript of the conversation that gave rise to the notes, taking place in a side-chat, on a live Google document. At the same time, whilst this has been a process of selection, there has been little editorial intervention into the chat, in order to preserve its chronology and dynamics, and acknowledge the challenges of us arriving in this document together, from four different places, with different forms of access and points of entry into language

    This thesis has been written on commission by Laboratoriemedicin VLL, which is a part of region’s hospital. The organization did not work as efficiently as it could, and senior managers have encountered various problems. We have been asked to estimate the situation, analyze it, and come up with solutions which could increase efficiency and productivity; in other words, increase organizational performance. After preliminary interview with the senior manager, we have identified our areas of the interest: organizational structure, leadership, and communication.   This preliminary interview made us very interested at the situation at Laboratoriemedicin, and helped us to formulate our research question: “How do organizational structure, leadership, and communication affect productivity and efficiency of the public health-care organization?” Moreover, it made our research have two purposes, one of academic character, and one of practical character. The academic purpose is in investigating relationship between organizational structure, leadership, and communication and organizational performance, i.e. efficiency and productivity. The practical purpose is in giving analysis-based recommendations about possible ways to increase productivity and efficiency to Laboratoriemedicin VLL.   In order to find out the answer to the research question and to fulfill both purposes of the research, we have conducted a qualitative research. This has been done by interviewing ten people working at Laboratoriemedicin. We have tried to talk to representatives of different layers of the organization to make our research more diversificated and complete. These semi-structured interviews resulted in qualitative data, which had been processed and analyzed using coding technique.   The findings of our research revealed that structure, leadership, and communication affect efficiency and productivity. Structure defines how productive the operational processes are; leadership affects the whole personnel and the way they strive for achieving their goal; communication affects how fast things are getting done and how happy and willing personnel are. Additionally, we have spotted two areas affecting the relationship between structure, communication, leadership, and organizational performance: development issues and personal issues. Moreover, we have found that leadership and organization are the most problematic spots in Laboratoriemedicin. After careful analysis of the situation we have come up with the list of suggestions that can help the organization to achieve increased efficiency and productivity.

    Has Revenge Become a Justification to Legitimize the Death Penalty?

    Revenge has played a role in criminal justice systems for thousands of years. From the Code of Hammurabi, to the Bible, to modern Supreme Court jurisprudence, revenge, or “getting even,” has been a consideration in how wrongdoers are punished, especially with respect to the imposition of the death penalty. Historically, revenge has not been viewed as a legitimate justification for punishment under American legal principles. However, in the past year, both the United States Supreme Court and the Department of Justice have signaled that revenge may well have a legitimate role in justifying the death penalty. This Note will explore the development of revenge as a justification for punishment in the American criminal justice system. It will begin by showing that recent remarks from the bench and the Department of Justice signal a willingness to consider the effects of revenge on crime victims. It will then analyze the concept of revenge as part of a criminal justice system and discuss the United States Supreme Court’s historical views on revenge as a justification for the death penalty. Next, this Note will investigate revenge’s role in the Victims’ Rights Movement, specifically how revenge factors into victim impact statements. Finally, this Note ultimately asserts that revenge is not and should not be a goal of the criminal justice system given the public policy implications
